SSI Level 1 Swim Teacher Certification
The SSI Level 1 Swim Teacher certification is your first step toward becoming a qualified swim instructor. It equips you with the essential knowledge and practical skills to teach beginner swimmers (ages 3‑15) in SSI’s structured learning programs—from Aquatike I to Beginner III.
Through a balanced mix of academics, pool training, and real-world lessons, you’ll:

Outcome & Credentials
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a digital SSI Level 1 Swim Teacher certification, authorizing you to teach:
Ages 3–4

Aquatike Series
Water confidence for toddlers.
- Aquatike I
Target Age: ~3 years; no prior swim skill required
Focus: Water confidence for first-timers
Goal: Swim ~2 m (7 ft) using reach‑and‑pull strokes and hold face in water for ~10 seconds - Aquatike II
Prerequisite: Comfortable in water and able to swim ~2 m
Focus: Introducing forward movement and assisted breathing
Goal: Swim ~3 m (10 ft) using windmill arms, streamlined kick, and front-breathing with assistance - Aquatike III
Prerequisite: Competent in Aquatike II skills
Focus: Combining stroke and breath technique smoothly
Goal: Swim ~6 m (20 ft) with windmill arms, independent rollover breath mid-way, then continue to finish
Ages 4–5

Preschool Series
Basic strokes and breathing.
- Preschool I
Target Age: ~4–5 years
Prerequisite: Aquatike III or equivalent water confidence
Focus: Stroke coordination and safe floating
Goal: Swim ~3 m using windmill arms and kick, perform independent rollover breath, and maintain 10 s back float - Preschool II
Prerequisite: Confident in Preschool I skills
Focus: Extended stroke with controlled breathing
Goal: Swim ~6 m combining windmill arms, streamlined kicking, and mid-way breathing to reach end point
Ages 5-15

Beginner Series
Full stroke swim training.
- Beginner I
Target Age: 5–17 years
Prerequisite: No prior swim experience required
Focus: Basic stroke and breath introduction
Goal: Swim ~6 m with windmill arms, kick, and rollover breath - Beginner II
Prerequisite: Completed Beginner I
Focus: Coordination and breathing endurance
Goal: Swim ~12 m with consistent stroke and independent breathing - Beginner III
Prerequisite: Competent in Beginner II
Focus: Full-length swim with refined breath control
Goal: Swim ~15–25 m with rolling side breaths and full-stroke coordination
